2.         Influencing Policy
3.         Supporting Direct Services
4.         Campaigning & Raising Awareness
5.         Promoting Service Standards

1. Initiating Consultation, Partnerships & Research:

  • We consult regularly with older people through focus groups and are actively involved with various pensioner organisations.
  • We work in close partnership with research institutions, National Assembly and other organisations to further knowledge the key health and social issues affecting older people in Wales.
  • We help to identify and respond to gaps in service provision, both locally and nationally, through our enquiries database network which links key Age Concern Organisations across Wales.

2. Influencing Policy:

  • We work with political parties and their representatives in Wales, Westminster and Europe, seeking to advise and shape policy on issues such as long-term care, charging policies, transport, housing, health, age and ethnicity.
  • We provide active support for the National Assembly's All Party Group on older people and ageing.

3. Supporting Direct Services:

  • We provide information, research and grants to local Age Concern Organisations who offer a variety of direct services such as hospital aftercare, befriending, good neighbours schemes, lunch club, day centres, handyperson schemes and IT training.

4. Campaigning and Raising Awareness:

  • We discourage age discrimination and promote positive ageing and active retirement through annual events such as our Senior Learner's Award.
  • We promote issues of importance to older people, by campaigning for higher income, improved housing conditiions, sustainable transport and better health care.
  • We provide expertise and information through policy briefings, factsheets, resource library and our quarterly publication called Message.

5. Promoting Service Standards:

  • We work by example, promoting quality standards for management, service and care.
  • We work in partnership with the National Assembly to improve standards of care for older people wherever they live.
  • We campaign for older people to have equal access to health care in the NHS.
