Our activities in this area include lobbying politicians and decision makers, working to highlight the issues that matter to older people in Wales on our own and in partnership with others and projects that aim to improve the involvement of older people in decision making processes. Public Affairs and Policy Age Concern Cymru's Public Affairs and Policy team work to influence decision makers within the Welsh Assembly Government and beyond. Delivering for a New Age - Age Concern in Wales' Manifesto for Local Government In the run up to the 2008 Local Government elections in Wales, Age Concern in Wales launched a manifesto urging local authorities to deliver in a number of key areas ranging from social services to sustainable communities, and from age equality to pensioner poverty. Free home care in Wales On 15 February 2006 the Welsh Assembly Government announced that it was unable to honour its longstanding pledge to introduce free homecare for disabled people. The decision not to implement the policy centred on concerns that the policy could not be introduced 'affordably and equitably'. This decision represents a severe blow to thousands of disabled people who rely on community care support. Click here to view Age Concern Cymru's response to the decision (April 2006). Coalition on Charging Campaign Pack This pack has been designed to help campaigners demonstrate to the Welsh Assembly Government the impact that this decision will have on disabled people and the strength of feeling that exists around the issue.
