Age Concern Cymru understands that attitudes towards lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people in the 21st century is a lot more liberal and understanding than ever before. The law now offers greater recognition, equality and protection for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals or transgender people than at any other time in history.
The recent legislative developments increase the importance of services moving in line with changes in society and creates opportunities to demonstrate to lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people that services are inclusive.
As a result of previous laws stating that it was illegal and a mental problem to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, older LGBT people have often had to fight hard for their rights and have been discriminated against just because of their sexual orientation. Some have simply kept their sexual orientation a secret for the majority of their lives therefore making them more wary and sceptical of services provided. Age Concern Cymru has set up a network of people to allow them to share their thoughts with like minded people in a safe and comfortable environment. To find out more about this network please click here.
